Hooray, you're engaged! But now what?

So, now you’re engaged, what should you do?

First things first, make sure all your nearest and dearest hear your news from you personally, before you splash it all over social media. I know you’re excited, and you want to share it with the world, but hold your horses and at the very least call everyone. That way you’ll a) stop anyone super important to you from finding out from someone else and feeling like they’re not that important to you after all and b) not be robbed of the pleasure of sharing your news and excitement in person because someone has seen it on Facebook and told everyone before you’ve had chance.

Secondly, have a few weeks to relax before even thinking about starting wedding planning. Unless you’re planning on getting it all sorted in a matter of weeks, there is absolutely no rush. Enjoy the ‘we’ve just got engaged’ glow for a bit

Then, start looking for ideas. Pinterest is a great place to get started, but- and I’ve said this hundreds of times- don’t just leave it there. Get out to local wedding fairs and actually meet suppliers face to face. I wrote a post a few months ago about whywedding fairs rock, plus some about how to get the most out your visit, so I’m not going to go into that too much right now. Just remember that online is great for research, and that buying online is perfectly fine, but don’t underestimate how good it is to actually meet people face to face too if you have the chance :)

Getting the most out of visiting a wedding fayre

(I’m doing a few wedding fairs in the next few months, if you fancy coming along and saying hi. These dates are all in 2016, so if you're reading this later, have a search for upcoming dates :) )

After that, you should be well on your way to finding your wedding style and thinking about your colour scheme (again, I have a post on this topic, but I’ve added the summary below as a quick reference)

After that, you should be well into the wedding planning process, which is an entirely different kettle of fish, but the immediate things are:

  1. Tell everyone, starting with those most important to you
  2. Enjoy being engaged before thinking about wedding planning
  3. Start to get ideas online and by visiting wedding fayres
  4. Pick a colour scheme and/or theme

and the rest should follow fairly easily :)

That’s all for this week, next week I’ll be writing up a full summary of how to get the most out of visiting a wedding fayre, so if you’re thinking of attending any during your wedding planning process, make sure you check back next week :)

Lots of love,

Rosie x
